Pull That Saw Down Again

pit sawing
Working in a saw pit
Is like working in a grave
Working in a saw pit
You are treated like a slave
Sweat and sawdust coated
Your body aches and pains
You don’t get time to rest
It’s, ‘Pull that saw down again’.

The years 1947-1953 were the most significant of my life. From my first job as a dairy farm worker at 10 bob a week, until my enlistment as a soldier in the Regular Army, those years would provide the pattern for future endeavours.

If you have been around the showground,
In the days now gone and went,
I am sure your memory will recall,
The old time Boxing, Tent.

They turned up at your local show,
Featured boxers from the past,
And starry eyed young Koori kids,
For whom the die has been cast.
